This substantial four light, eight-panel Craftsmen quartersawn oak lamp structure, expertly crafted by Phil Meyer, and incorporating a no-longer-available pottery base by Kevin Hicks of Ephraim Pottery, is the basis for my stained glass work. (Note the black crow perched on one of the vase’s buttresses. )
For this lamp I have chosen two sheets of splendid Youghiogheny stippled stained glass, code #3637 SP and #4637 SP, as my palette. The interspersed color of bubblegum is particularly striking.
Four panels are devoted to solid sheets of glass, and the remaining four panels are given over to copper foiled, soldered and patinated glass to mimic spiderwebs. A kiln-fired cabochon at the center of each web adds real dimension.
Unique in all the world, and created in my studio in the piney woods of the Mississippi coastal plain.
