When a flat sheet of decorated glass, in this case adorned with green and pure gold ferns, leaves and dragonflies, is exposed in my kiln to extreme heat over many hours, the results can be dramatic.
The heat applied slowly, and reaching 1300 degrees, will naturally slump the flat glass sheet into unique pleats and folds that are distinctive to each work. Manipulation of the form also adds its own special shapes. And fusing forever locks in the surface decoration, creating a cohesive whole, unaffected by moisture, heat, cold and sunlight.
Once wedded to a weighted and patinated base, the ends result is a small lamp without match.
All of my glass creations are realized in my studio in the piney woods of the Mississippi coastal plain.
