MEDIEVAL PORTATIVE ORGAN AND ORGANIST

The exact invention date of the portative organ isn't pinpointed, but its roots are in the early medieval period, with the first possible illustrated reference dating to the 9th century and significant depictions appearing in the 12th to 15th centuries.

The central hand-painted and high fired rondel in this stained glass panel shows this small musical instrument and the musician, highlighted by a border of bright green/blue stipple glass. The background is of fiery stipple red, all by Youghiogheny Art Glass.

The whole has been copper foiled, soldered, patinated and waxed. A very durable antiqued zinc frame finishes the work, with an integral hanger and chain. Signed in copper plate.

Unique, and as always… created in the piney woods of coastal Mississippi.
